Brian McMullan

Niagara Community

Brian McMullan’s personal, educational and public-service history is closely connected to Niagara.

Raised and educated in Niagara

Brian was raised in the Niagara region and graduated from Brock University. That background informed a career focused on local government, regional cooperation and community development.

Regional perspective

Service at both the city and regional levels gave Brian experience with issues extending beyond a single municipality. Regional planning, transportation, economic development, environmental services and the relationship between Niagara’s communities all formed part of the broader public-policy environment.

Brock University and international students

During Brian’s time as mayor, the City of St. Catharines and Brock University worked together on several civic and cultural initiatives. In 2013, Brian hosted Brock international graduate students at City Hall, welcomed them to the community and spoke with them about the history of St. Catharines.

International relationships

Brian also participated in activities associated with the longstanding twinning relationship between St. Catharines and Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Brock University reporting documented official exchanges and educational discussions involving the two communities.

Community partnerships

Municipal leadership depends on relationships among residents, businesses, educational institutions, community organizations and other levels of government. Brian’s public work regularly involved bringing those groups together around shared civic priorities.
